Jack Beal: Biographical Sketch

Jack Beal was born June 25, 1931 in Richmond, Virginia. He has been married to the painter Sondra Freckelton for 52 years. They have lived in the town of Franklin in Delaware County, New York since 1974.

He began showing his work in 1964 with the Allan Frumkin Gallery in New York and Chicago, and continued with the  Frumkin/Adams Gallery and continues with the George Adams Gallery. He has completed a number of portrait commissions as well as public commissions for the US Department of Labor in Washington, D.C., for the Metropolitan transit Authority In Times Sq, New York City, and for the Creative Discovery Museum in Chattanooga Tennessee. His works are in the collection of a number of museums and private collections, and he has lectured at more than 100 art schools, universities and colleges. His work is the subject of the monograph Jack Beal by Eric Shanes, Hudson Hills Press, New York. He has received honorary doctorates from the Art Institute of Boston, Collins College, and the State University of New York at Oneonta.
